This guide is for couples, families and anyone planning a single session across several Rome landmarks. It covers which locations link on foot, how to order them, what the Trevi Fountain access rules change, and what 3-5 km of walking involves. A well-ordered route means more time in good light and less time on pavement.

CLUSTERS

Which Rome Locations Can I Link on Foot?

The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Piazza Navona link easily on foot, with typical walking times of 8 to 10 minutes between neighbouring pairs. The Spagna metro station exits next to the Spanish Steps, so that end of the cluster is simple to reach. The walk from Trevi to the Pantheon is roughly 1.5 km through narrow lanes. Piazza Navona is a short step beyond the Pantheon.

The Colosseum and Roman Forum form a second cluster, and they sit side by side. Linking that cluster to the Pantheon area is a much longer transfer. Visitor walking times for it run around 25 to 30 minutes, which uses up a large share of a 3-5 km session. Trastevere sits across the Tiber from the Navona side, and the usual crossing is the Ponte Sisto. The Vatican connects to the centre by a walk through Piazza Navona.

I shoot at over 30 locations across Rome. The easiest routes keep every stop inside one cluster. Mixing clusters is possible, but it costs walking distance.

PACKAGES

How Many Stops Fit in One Session?

The number of stops is set by your package. Essential is €300 for 1 hour, 30 photos and 1 location. Signature is €500 for 2 hours, 50 photos and 2 locations, and it is the Most Popular choice. Prestige is €800 for 3 hours, 60 photos and 3 locations. Every session involves 3-5 km of walking, so the route is part of the plan from the start.

A single-location Essential session needs no route. You choose one anchor and the walking happens around it. Signature suits two neighbouring stops from the same cluster, for example the Spanish Steps and Trevi, or the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. Prestige takes three stops, and the route matters most here because the transfers add up. A Prestige route that stays in one cluster leaves more of the 3 hours for photographing.

A Proposal session is €300 for 1 hour with a hidden camera. Plan the walk so the proposal spot comes last and the approach looks like an ordinary stroll for the person being photographed. The Night Session is €450. I offer it for the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain lit at night.

ORDER

In What Order Should I Walk the Stops?

Start with the stop where light and crowds matter most, and finish with the shortest walk back to your hotel or a metro stop. Sunrise and the hour before sunset give the softest, most flattering light, so build the route backwards from that window. If the session starts at sunrise, the first stop gets the best light and the thinnest crowds. If it ends at golden hour, put the stop with the strongest sky last.

"I put the busiest stop first and the shaded streets last, because a crowded square only gets harder as the morning goes on," Finzi says. "The lanes between stops are where I get the quiet frames."

Check the slope of each leg before fixing the order. Termini station sits uphill from the Forum and Piazza Navona, so a walk back toward a hotel near Termini at the end of a session is a climb. Ending near the Spagna metro station or inside the centre is easier. The same logic applies to any stop with steps, such as the Spanish Steps or the Trevi basin: do the climb while everyone is fresh.

TipWrite your route as a list of legs with walking minutes between them. If one leg is more than 15 minutes, look for a closer stop.

TREVI ACCESS

Trevi Fountain Access Rules That Affect Route Timing

Rome introduced a ticket for the Trevi Fountain's inner perimeter on 2 February 2026, and it applies to tourists and non-residents.Turismo Roma, the city's official tourism site, says the ticket applies every day, with free admission for residents of Rome and its metropolitan area, children under 5, and people with disabilities and their caregivers.

The ticket affects timing, not access to the view. The official Trevi Fountain site states "The Trevi Fountain is always visible from outside, even without a ticket." The same site says that visitors who already hold a ticket use a dedicated line, and those without one queue to buy. Buy through the official channels ahead of time if you want the inner perimeter in your plan. The queue is then not taking minutes from the rest of your route.

The official site also notes that there are steps up to the inner perimeter, and that strollers can be left at the access control point. This matters for family sessions. Decide before the day whether the inner perimeter belongs in your plan, and check the official site for the current opening hours.

TipTrevi is the stop most likely to run late on a route. Put it first, or give the stop after it a flexible start.

ON FOOT

What 3-5 km of Walking Involves

A session of 1 to 3 hours covers 3-5 km, so plan for comfortable walking shoes rather than a fashion pair you cannot wear for an hour. Old paving in the centre is uneven, and lanes between squares are narrow. Shoes you can walk in for hours suit every package.

Light rain actually creates dramatic skies and intimate moods, and I work in most weather conditions. Bring a small bag or none, and keep anything you need for the walk in one place. For a family, a short route inside one cluster is easier on young legs than a long transfer. If someone in the group tires on the day, the route can shorten, because the stops are close together.

Rest points on the route help. A square with seating or a café stop between two stops lets everyone reset before the next frame.

DAYLIGHT

How Daylight Changes the Route Length by Season

Rome gets about 10 hours of daylight in November, so a winter route has less usable light than a summer one and golden hour arrives in the late afternoon. Sunrise and sunset tables for any date are on public astronomy sites. Check the date of your session and plan the last stop so that you finish in the soft light.

In winter, keep the route short, with stops close together, so the best light is spent at the stops and not on the pavement. In summer, the long evenings allow a longer transfer, but heat is a factor. Start earlier or later in the day, and carry water. Peak season runs from April to October, and I recommend booking at least 2-4 weeks in advance.

TipPick the date first, then check sunrise and sunset, then fix the stops.

Match Your Session

Quick answers to the questions visitors ask before they book.

How far apart are the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Pantheon?
Visitor walking times are about 8 to 10 minutes between neighbouring pairs, and Trevi to the Pantheon is roughly 1.5 km.
Can I combine the Colosseum and Trevi in one session?
Yes, but the transfer is longer than between centre stops and uses part of the 3-5 km walk. A Signature session has two locations.
How many locations can I include?
Essential has 1, Signature has 2, Prestige has 3.
How much walking is involved?
Each session involves 3-5 km of walking.
What order should I use for a sunrise session?
Put the busiest stop first, where light is best and crowds are thinnest, and finish near your hotel or a metro stop.
Do I need a ticket to photograph at the Trevi Fountain?
The fountain is always visible from the piazza without a ticket. A ticket is needed for the inner perimeter if you are a non-resident. Check the official Trevi site.
Can I change the route after booking?
Yes. Rescheduling is free at any time, and you can contact me directly to adjust locations.
What if it rains?
Light rain creates dramatic skies and I work in most weather. Heavy storms trigger a free postponement.
How do I secure my date?
A €30 deposit secures your date. It is non-refundable.
